Grenland Rail AS is a railway company that transports goods, railway infrastructure equipment (work trains) and dangerous goods on the Norwegian railway network. The company is headquartered in Skien, with a workshop and a railway depot in Drammen, and operates daily services to Hønefoss, Oslo and Lillestrøm.

Grenland Rail AS History

Grenland Rail was founded when the rail service company Miljø og Veiservice AS needed transport capacity. The company developed into a transport service provider for freight wagons and equipment for Jernbaneverket. In 2012, Grenland Rail was granted a licence to operate goods in parts of Norway.

In 2014, this license was extended to the entire Norwegian railway network as well as the transport of dangerous goods, and in 2018 the license was changed from a small company to a medium enterprise. This gave Grenland Rail the ability to transport more than 500 million tonnes of goods per year.

Grenland Rail AS Tasks

Grenland Rail operates conventional freight wagons, intermodal units and abnormal transport. In addition, shunting work is carried out in freight stations and delivery runs to railway sidings. Work trains are transported as contractors.
