Hovedgård-Hasselager Line (High-Speed Railway)

The new line Hovedgård - Hasselager was a proposed new Danish high-speed railway line in East Jutland between Hovedgård and Hasselager. It was included in the political settlement in 2014 on Togfonden DK between the SR-SF government and Enhedslisten and the Danish People's Party to build the railway.

The section was to supplement the railway capacity between Aarhus and Horsens and reduce the distance between the two cities by approx. 6 kilometers. Driving time was expected to be reduced by approx. 6 minutes, which was necessary to realize the Time model where the goal was that it should take one hour to run a train between Aarhus and Odense.

In 2023, there was no longer a political majority for the project.

Hovedgård-Hasselager Line Guidance

There were three proposals for the northern part of the alignment and two proposals for the southern part of the alignment.

Hovedgård-Hasselager Line Northern Alignment

The three options for alignment on the northern part of the section were:

• Western Route: The line is routed west of Solbjerg. but on a low bridge over Stilling-Solbjerg Sø.
• Central Alignment: The line runs through Solbjerg, where it will be possible to build a station.
• Eastern Route: The track is routed east of Solbjerg.

Hovedgård-Hasselager Line Southern Alignment

The options for the alignment to the south were:

Main proposal: The track runs through Hovedskov, east of Grumstrup and between Vedslet and Assendrup.

South-Eastern alternative: The track runs east around Hovedskov and Vedslet. This alternative is proposed by Horsens Municipality

Hovedgård-Hasselager Line Prices

Construction costs were expected to be DKK 3.5 billion in 2017 prices for the eastern alignment and the main proposal to the south. In the case of a western or central alignment, approx. 10% more. The south-eastern alternative would result in an additional price of DKK 50-100 million.

Length and Travel Times

At 23.4 km, the central alignment would be the shortest and fastest. The western alignment was 23.6 km and with 8 seconds longer travel time. The eastern alignment was 24.7 km and with 20 seconds longer travel time. The south-east alternative would increase the length by 0.2 km, but with unchanged travel time.

Solbjerg Station

With the central line, a station could be built in Solbjerg. A possibly station would be centrally located parallel to Gammel Horsensvej. There would be 2 platforms with a width of 5 m and a length of 240 m with the possibility of extending to 320 m. There would be platform tunnels under the railway at both ends of the station with stairs to the platforms, and also a lift from one of the tunnels.

The travel time from a possible Solbjerg Station is expected to be 11 minutes to Aarhus H and 12 minutes to Horsens.

Hovedgård-Hasselager Line Track Guage

The track would be two-track, electrified and built for a speed of up to 250 km/h. The distance between the tracks will be at least 4.5 m, and the track system will be approx. 13.4 m wide in total. There would be 8 m high catenary masts on both sides with a distance of up to 90 m.

Hovedgård-Hasselager Line Costs

A majority in Aarhus city council with S, SF, R, EL and Alternativet recommended the central route, while the bourgeois parties were against the new railway line.
