Forsmo-Hoting Railway

Forsmo–Hoting Railway Line

The Forsmo–Hoting railway line is a connecting line of the Inlandsbana with the Stambana genom övre Norrland in northern Sweden.

Forsmo–Hoting Railway Line History

In 1917, the Swedish Parliament provided one million Swedish kronor to the railway company Statens Järnvägar (SJ), but the costs rose tenfold by the time the line was completed. In 1921, freight traffic between Forsmo and Ådalsliden began. The entire line to Hoting was officially opened on 3 December 1925.

There has been no passenger traffic since 1985. Only the Ådalslidens Järnvägsvänner association runs special trips with a rail bus on the route a few times a year.

The line is designed for an axle load of 22.5 t and a meter load of 6.4 t/m. The maximum speed is 70 km/h. Freight traffic is mainly handled by Hector Rail and Inlandståget, a subsidiary of Inlandsbanan AB. After an Inlandståget train derailed at Tågsjöberg station on 16 May 2014, the railway line was completely closed by the supervisory authority Trafikverket until 31 October 2014.
