KrösatågenKrösatågenKrösatågen runs from Hässleholm in the south to Linköping in the north and Halmstad in the west to Kalmar in the east - and a number of destinations in between. Krösatågen is a collaboration between the county transport companies in Jönköping, Kalmar, Halland, Blekinge, Kronoberg and Skåne. The trains are run by SJ Krösa. Krösatågen is a regional train system that since 1985 has transported passengers on certain routes in Jönköping County and Kronoberg County and into neighboring counties, on behalf of the regional public transport authorities. The neighboring counties with Krösatåg are Halland County , Kalmar County, Östergötland County, Blekinge County and Skåne County. The name is taken from the earlier trains that went from Blekinge up in Småland, on which people went to pick kröson, that is, lingonberries. In the years 1990–2002, traffic was operated under the name "Länstågen". Krösatågen Procurement The traffic takes place on behalf of the regional public transport authorities in six of the seven counties served. The tickets follow the traffic authorities' system, but tickets are sold via the Resplus system.
The original routes were Jönköping – Vaggeryd and Nässjö – Vetlanda – Åseda, which a couple of years later were expanded with Nässjö – Vaggeryd – Värnamo – Halmstad and Nässjö – Hultsfred – Oskarshamn. In connection with this expansion, the name was changed to Länstågen, but in 2002 the name Krösatågen was taken back. As the number of long-distance train stops in e.g. Sävsjö declined during the 2000s, the county transport company also started operating the Södra main line between Nässjö–Sävsjö– Stockaryd (– Alvesta ). The route was initially operated, despite electrification, by diesel locomotives Y1 and Y31/Y32 due to Krösatågen's limited fleet. With Krösatågen's purchase of additional electric locomotives in 2014, the main traffic between the residential cities was rerouted, from the Jönköping–Värnamo–Växjö route to the Jönköping–Nässjö–Sävsjö–Alvesta–Växjö route, via the Södra main line. Krösatågen also took up traffic on the Nässjö–Jönköping route. Both Krösatåg and Västtåg run between Nässjö and Jönköping. On December 15, 2013, the network was expanded when Krösatågen began to operate the lines Karlskrona – Emmaboda – Kalmar and Växjö – Alvesta – Hässleholm. Concerned regional public transport authorities and the municipalities decided in the spring of 2014 to shut down traffic on the section Oskarshamn–Eksjö from December 2014. On June 1, 2015, the Östgötapendeln was replaced by the Krösatågen on the Jönköping–Tranås route. During 2016 and 2017, there were major disruptions in traffic due to a lack of vehicles, partly due to heavier maintenance, as well as vehicles that had been away for repairs for a long time after accidents, and partly because they got rid of vehicles for Västtrafik. This has led to many canceled train trips, for shorter and longer times. The sections Nässjö–Vetlanda and Nässjö–Eksjö have been worst affected. During the autumn of 2017, all Krösatåg traffic was canceled between Nässjö and Eksjö to free up vehicles for other routes. On December 12, 2021, the Kustpilen train system with the lines Linköping – Västervik (Tjustbanan) and Linköping– Kalmar (Stångådalsbanan) was transferred to Krösatågen. The Krösatågen thus serves seven counties in southern Sweden. Krösatågen Lines Krösatågen operates the following lines: Line Stretch
