RååbananRååbanan (Råådalsbanan)Rååbanan, also known as Råådalsbanan, is an approx. 43 km long electrified railway line that runs between Eslöv and Helsingborg. The reason why the course got its name is that it partly follows the Råån. Since December 2016, the entire section of the line has been serviced by Skånetrafiken. The Rååbanan consists of the Västkustbanan's old section from Helsingborg's old goods railway station to Teckomatorp, and the Goods line through Skåne's old section from Teckomatorp to Eslöv. Rååbanan History Landskrona & Helsingborgs Railways (L&HJ) The line was built in 1865, as a secondary line to the Södra stambanan. In Billeberga the track split, one branch went to Landskrona and one branch to Helsingborg. The branch to Landskrona has been torn up since 1991 and replaced with a cycle lane. The railway was nationalized in 1938 and electrified in 1944. Local trains operated by SJ then ran on the track until the 1980s. The wagons were often worn and the tracks to both Landskrona and through Råådalen to Helsingborg became heavily worn over time. Passenger traffic on the line between Billeberga and Landskrona ceased in 1981, while the line to Helsingborg eventually got new life thanks to the Pågatågen. Rååbanan The Passenger Trains After a long period of decline for the railway, Länstrafiken in Malmöhus län, during the mid-1980s, invested in a new commuter train network, similar to that in Stockholm. They then started running Pågatåg from Malmö to Helsingborg (via Lund, Kävlinge and Teckomatorp ). The train service was such a successful venture that the stations in Tågarp, Vallåkra and Gantofta were reopened. The track was upgraded in 2016 to be able to be used for passenger traffic and as a diversion track. The project was partially financed by the municipality of Eslöv and Region Skåne. The upgrade meant that in December 2016 they started to run pågatång on the entire line and since then the pågatåg line goes via Eslöv and not via Kävlinge, with a new stop in Marieholm which is located between Teckomatorp and Eslöv. The latter stretch of track is also called Marieholmsbanan. West Coast Railway Between 1991 and 2001, the track between Teckomatorp and Helsingborg was counted as part of the Västkustbanan. In 1991, Nya Helsingborg C was inaugurated, at the same time SJ began to reroute its long-distance trains via Helsingborg. When the new double-track line Kävlinge - Landskrona - Helsingborg was completed (2001), the long-distance trains started running that way instead. The line was built too steep for loaded goods trains (this to get over Glumslöv's slopes), and these still use the Rååbanan as well as the Godsstråket through Skåne. Rååbanan Track Description From Eslöv, the railway turns west from the station and here, too, goes straight through the open agricultural landscape and crosses through Marieholm. In Teckomatorp, the track crosses the Godsstråket through Skåne. After Billeberga has been passed, the railway turns off to the north-west, and comes a couple of kilometers into the scenic Råådalen. The track follows this almost all the way to Helsingborg. Rååbanan Stations Traffic Places
