Bollnäs-Furudal Line

Part of the Bollnäs–Orsa railway line is a railway between Inlandsbanan and the Northern Main Line. It was built by Dala-Hälsingland's railway company. Only the Furudal – Orsa section is operated, and then only sporadically. Otherwise, the railway line has been closed and maintenance has ceased on the Bollnäs – Furudal section.

Current Traffic and Future Plans

The entire railway is owned by the Swedish state but is managed by the Swedish Transport Administration on the Bollnäs–Furudal section and Inlandsbanan AB on the Furudal–Orsa section. The Swedish Transport Administration decided on 13 December 2015 to cease maintenance on its section, but in practice the maintenance ended much earlier and the section has not been serviceable since at least 2007.

On the Inlandsbanan section Orsa–Furudal, there is only sporadic traffic with timber transports and in the summer sporadic passenger trains with rail buses belonging to the Orsa railway association (veteran trains), for example in connection with Orsayran.

A museum association was formed in 1988 that reused the old railway company's name, Föreningen Dala-Hälsinglands Järnväg. The association's goal is to preserve and develop the entire Bollnäs–Orsa railway section. Among other things, the association clears the track on a non-profit basis so that it does not grow again and thus save the possibility of being able to resume traffic.

There are proposals and investigations to upgrade the line so that freight trains can run. Inlandsbanan AB has also shown interest in taking over as manager of the entire route.
